Upsamplers, DACs, jitter, shakes and analogue withdrawals, this is it.

Got the recommended cleaning procedure

The thoughtful folks at Lifatec provided this recommendation in response to my query:

"We would recommend cleaning with a tissue soaked with 91% alcohol, and blowing it off with compressed air. That's what we have found to be the best method to clean off the dirt from the ends."

Lifatec is the US outlet of a cool German firm marketing high-spec optical borosilicate glass fiber in the US, including Hi-Fi. If you haven't considered "Toslink" previously, you might want to try. It is highly system-dependent, of course, but I found one these beautifully-made precision cables yielded a significant performance advantage over coax in my system for a very reasonable cost.
