I recall Kal Rubinson in Stereophilev a few year back saying he thought the Oppo 105 sounded better than the Sony 5400ES.
The new Oppo 'audiophile' model (205) might be fun, if the future ever were to hold DSD or multi-channel sound for you. Supposedly makes a dandy USB DAC too, if that was of value to you. I think these re running around $1200.
It was a bit rich for my blood, but I like the Sony 'house' sound and have been deeply enjoying my new Sony Universal UHP-H1, sounding quite nice and solid through my Schiit Bifrost multi-bit right now. A bargain!
