I'll offer what works great for me in the garage system - a demo Music Hall DAC 25.3 purchased for $400. It has a beefy power supply using an R-core tranny, switchable upsampling, headphone amp along with both unbalanced and balanced outputs.
If you want to get jiggy with the OPA2134 op amps, they are socket mounted so it is easy to replace them with Bursons. This pic I pulled from the 'net also shows some cap upgrades.
