RE: Perhaps a Universal Blue-Ray Player?

I'm breaking in a new Sony UHP-H1, a universal disc player I selected for its ...uh ...universality. That, and the fact that I like the Sony "house" sound after listening to a lovely DVP-S7700 lo these many years. They make a big whoop over the UHP-H1 being the grandchild of the ES line-- special audio features, structural guts, switch to turn off the video stuff, etcetc. I like the way its made, it's compact and silent and makes nice music.

I suggest the UHP-H1 because I believe you will need only its stereo analog outputs, yes? I've listened critically to all the output jacks (except HDMI- one doesn't really *listen* to HDMI...) The sweetest IMO were the analog stereo outputs. Its purring away now presenting a warm and full sound from SACD's - same from CD's. The latter sound all shiny and new, a little more lively and/or "analytical" versus my antique Sony deck, but absolutely non fatiguing. Deep, stable soundstage.

I don't expect to be taken seriously; its an odd piece for this asylum and Sony is not precisely an audiophile perennial... But this may be their last audio-centric disc spinner and they gave it some thought; it's not meant to compete with the $79 Blur-ray players. If you're at all interested, act now-- its being phased out.

You do get most excellent Blue Ray moving pictures as a side benefit. I won't speak about movie sound- Bears don't listen to HDMI, remember. But if I were to, it's that The Hollywoos have no clue how awfully that rubbish disturbs my cat.
