Re-reading you post I see that you did mention that. What put you onto the Stilflex? I think the glass fiber Toslinks are still "under the radar" to most folks.
First sentence, last paragraph: "The reason to me is ultimately unknown but that is OK, it is the result I am after not the explanation or reason of why it is better.". Couldn't agree more.
