Upsamplers, DACs, jitter, shakes and analogue withdrawals, this is it.

Polarity made easier - kinda

This is one of the features that attracts me to Pure Music.

First, PM has a macro switch in the drop down box that you can select to invert the total system polarity.

But then, and what makes it special to me, each cut (if you are suitably OCD) can be designated for optimum polarity in the iTunes comment column.

If Pure Music - no matter what position the macro switch is in - encounters a cut with "invertpolarity" in the comment column, it automatically switches it for me.

When on voicing jobs, I never know what the total system polarity will be. But with a simple pulse test and a polarity meter, I can tell what the system is and adjust the PM macro setting for that system. Then, every cut I play subsequently will be correct for that system .

Easy - set it and forget it - in the long run, especially if you are going to re-use certain cuts many times. Not so easy in the short run, because you have to listen to and designate each cut (of course with the macros set to accommodate your system's polarity).

For example, with a certain vacuum tube SE amp I use, the system is inverted. With a certain push-pull SS amp I also use, the system is non-inverting.

All I do is select the appropriate macro and voila, PM handles the rest. I never have to think about it again.

Best regards,

Jim Smith
