The 303 sounds terrible on the AN's. A passive pre would work well with normal sources on the 303 because of it's .5V input sensitivity.

I'm not quite clear on your 303's. Are you saying you have a fully NET Audio modified 303 sitting idle and a stock 303 in your system?
The reason I ask is when you say "I just can't bring myself to rip it all up" it sounds like you're talking about more than just subbing the modded 303 for the stock.

I've only got the one 303 and it's a nice one so I'm reluctant to do the mods without knowing how it's going to work out. I like the tunefulness of the 303/33 and would like to improve the clarity and separation, but don't want to loose the musicality. There are some things that can be done which aren't as intrusive such as replacing all the caps, resistors and some actives, and would give a big improvement because all those things are pretty well dead after 40 years whether they've been used or not. However, the full blown NET Audio mods do a few design changes as well. I wonder if the final result loses any of the magic that combo has for me. I've been on the lookout for a second good 303 for the mods, but haven't found one cheap enough.

I'd have ESL's too if there was room for them. Have you tried Quad II amps with your ESL's? How does the Heathkit Monos compare to the 303?

Yeah, I'd buy one of those new CD players in a minute if it looked like it was going to last even a quarter as long as some of the stuff we've been talking about. I've got to do some more research on this. Not much response to this post; I guess most people are busy getting ready for the holiday.
