When it hums, have you tried plugging it straight into the wall?
Maybe your power conditioner is giving the Saturn a funny waveform.
I'm not familiar with the Saturn, but some of the Rega electronics don't have direct grounding via u-ground to chassis, which might cause some interesting situations.
Somehow I suspect that a transformer that hums loudly isn't going to have a long life.
