Upsamplers, DACs, jitter, shakes and analogue withdrawals, this is it.

Life after Forsell

Query to those with deep experience with a Forsell CD transport:

The past months I've considered updating / replacing my Forsell Mk2 transport with something more contemporary. My motivation is simply age. The unit is over 10 years old, and I don't want to be concerned about reliability or repairs. The problem is that I have listened to several well-regarded contemporary transports - the usual suspects - and nothing comes remotely close to the analog-like sound of my Forsell. To those who owned this transport, what did you end up replacing it with? Is the replacement as "analog sounding" as the Forsell?

In my system the Forsell is paired with a modified Meitner Bidat DAC using PAD Dominus digital IC. The rest of my system includes modified Edgarhorns, Brenneman single-ended amp, Lamm L1, and PAD Dominus cable all around. The result is superb. The "usual suspects" I listened to are: CEC TL-0, Levinson 37, Sony SCD-1, EMM Labs, dcs stack, Electrocompaniet, Audio Aero, Wadia, Esoteric. All of these, to my ears, are too "synthetic" sounding, although to differing extents.

Thanks in advance...

Scott
