Upsamplers, DACs, jitter, shakes and analogue withdrawals, this is it.

Re: Not my experience

I totally agree Hartwerger. MI wonder if that guy actually has owned the Tjoeb 4000/upsampled because the way he describes the sound is almost the complete opposite of what mine sounded like. I had the top model with the upsampler, power cord, feet, NOS Seimens.....etc I found the bass to be ever so slightly on the lean side of things and while not the last word in resolution I wouldnt say that the Tjoeb was lacking in any way. The pace and timing of this player were great and one of the strenths IMO, I compared mine to a few differant players in the under $2000 range, at the time I thought I could do better. But I found that the Tjoeb more then held its own against the players I auditioned which included the Rega Jupiter, Naim cd5i, and Arcam cd93. All of which were greta players but none was clearly better than the Tjoeb just differant. And none could match the Tjoebs midrange which is great. So if your in the market for a player under $1500 I would definitly reccomend the Tjoeb with all the goodies and dont forget a pair of good tubes the stock Jan Philips are just opk at best, a pair of Seimesn 7308's transforms the player. You may find a nice used one as well. i recently sold mine to make the move to a PC based system, I sold it for $800 including 5 or 6 pairs of tubes.
