Re: am i crazy?

Most of my vinyl is true VG+ or better and most has been bought at used record stores. The worst records I own have come from eBay even though they've been graded by sellers who have huge positive feedback as at least VG+, however I've made some super scores there as well. Ebay is a crapshoot at best.

There is a fair amount of favourable mention of Audio Note DACs through this thread of yours, and having heard AN CD playback I thought I'd better weigh in here, for better or not.

The Audio Note transport/DACs and all-in-ones are definitely the best CD playback I've heard, however they still don't sound as good as vinyl played on my JVC JL-A20 turntable with Grado black cartridge, which cost a whopping $76. (BTW, I used a P3 with various $300 carts for a couple of years, but all things considered, the JVC outperformed it)

In a discussion with the local Audio Note dealer on Friday, I opined that my TT sounded better than the fairly expensive AN CD combo he was playing. His comment was "our cheapest turntable (not AN), when properly setup with a good matching cartridge, sounds better than our most expensive CD playback". (I noticed a $300 TT on display, and know they have sold $25,000 TTs as well.)

They are also a Rega dealer.

So, I think you can do better than your current CD player, but you may not ever be able to make CDs sound as good as vinyl, no matter how much you spend.

OK, I have my flame-suit on now.
