haven't tried straight off the dac yet; off the opamp, even the stock one sounds great. With a better opamp, I'm sure it would be better still. If you need the extra gain off the opamp, do it this way - if you have a preamp and can make up the difference, try off the dac. The simpler you make the path, the more transparent it will become, but be careful! As it stands now off the stock opamp, it has a beguiling lushness to the midrange that sounds smooth and relaxing, and you may end up losing it. I find it makes more of my somewhat digital sounding cd's more tolerable....
