Re: Dan Wright offering mods to the Ah! Njoe Tjoeb 4000.

I have myself preformed all the mods on Ah! 4000 which Dan has mentioned except for the Bybee filters and I do not have the upsampling board. The cdp also has Siemens 7308 gold pin purchased from Upscale.
The mods definitely brought about improvemts in the sound quality with better bass control, lower noise and better soundstage, BUT it was subtle. The stock Ah! with 7308 is very good and these mods will improve it slightly.
The price for Dan's mod is high and a DIY type of person can do it with 1/3 the cost and about 2-3 hr of work.

Recently I acquired the new Heart 6000 cdp and this player is better in all respects over the Modified Ah! which uses the tubes as buffers. The reason being that the implementation of the circuit for Heart 6000 is completely different. The Heart cost $850 + $80 for the Seimens 7308. With the above combination it beats the Ah! hands down.
I still own both of them and intend to keep it, the Heart 6000 for my main system and mod Ah! 4000 for my bedroom system.
