I had the same behavior with the DIP and MSB Link DAC. CC Poon told me it was residual data coming from my transport, even when it was off!. In retrospect, given your experience, it probably was the interaction between DIP and MSB. Funny, Sam Tellig's (Stereophile) rave about the combo never said anything about it... Anyways, that was part of the reason I ditched that whole rig.The stock MSB is a pretty aggressive sounding DAC. Maybe a good transport and/or DAC mods can tame that to a certain degree. I considered both and came to the conclusion that I was most likely chasing good money after bad, and went for a CDP.
