…and usually degenerates into a pedantic squabble. I asked some questions and got a lot of answers here . It was one of the better discussions on this topic.I bought a cheap tape and video degausser on E-bay. It's massively over-powered and can wipe a video in 5 seconds; I paid $35 which is a good deal better than Furutech's $350. The effects are quite unmistakable and all positive, but most of the improvements can be replicated by putting your disc in an envelope of tin-foil and wiping your hand over it once. The degausser's effects last longer, but at 0.5¢, the tinfoil wins the award for advanced audio cheapskatery.
Don't, for Heaven's sake, publicly admit that you're demagnetizing your CDs on this site, or an army of professional nay-sayers and Definers Of The Word will descend upon your house, questioning your right to breed. Just sit back and enjoy; some pleasures must be kept close like guilty secrets.
