... since you have no way of knowing the polarity status of the recording. I guess there could be a CD or two out of millions out there that gives that info, but I've never seen one. And the situation is further complicated because most recordings are recorded multi-track with many different brands and models of microphones used. Even if one does find a CD that indicates polarity, odds are good that the final mix itself is internally inconsistent.
Ultimately, if you have a polarity switch available on your setup, all you can do is flick it back and forth and stick with the setting that sounds best to you.
