About depth of field with digital

Hi
i admit my obsession about soundstage depth
So i am struggling to get some and possibly more than some.
I found this very very interesting Stereophile old article in the link
The dac under review is the Theta DS Pro Prime D/A processor
These words are impressive

" It was immediately obvious that the Prime was much closer in sound to Theta's previous processors than other Bitstream products I've heard. In fact, the presentation was instantly identifiable as a Theta: a huge transparent soundstage and stunning sense of space and depth.
Switching to the Prime transformed the presentation; it was like going from hearing the music through a rectangular frame to having the frame removed, leaving only the music "

and this from a bitstream !!!
So to me the recent debate sigma-delta vs. multibit is quite misleading.
There must be something else ...

" There is nothing in the measurements, however, that begin to describe its sonic character.-Robert Harley "

What is the secret of this 3D sound ? not the chip for sure.
What ????

Kind regards,
bg
