RE: Thanks! Actually mid-80s. My player was basis for Meridian

I'm not so sure. I had a Magnavox FD1000, which is the same as the first Philips, and it sounded awful to my ears compared to more modern players. But then again, I sampled some of my very early CDs the other day and they also sounded awful. These were from Digital Music Products and Sheffield Labs and were considered state of the art. There was no bass and they all sounded very congested. Never mind that the music was bad too and sounded very dated.

It made me wonder how bad everyone's vinyl setups were back then that we all abandoned them for CD. I guess those of us with something decent never gave up on vinyl.
