I have listened a bit to the Dac Zero (with PS Audio Lambda Two as the transport). Aside from the leanness, it gives my $3900 Naim system (CD5x + Flatcap) a run for its money. The Dac Zero seems to have higher resolution in the highs---I am hearing new nuances in thick textures. Reverberation retrieval is superior, although sometimes that's an artifact of a bright sound. But the highs seem even more fatigue-free than the Naim.
Listening to favorite recordings, I often hear things as more "emotionally honest" and "heartfelt" with the Dac Zero.
On the other hand, certain favorite moments on the Naim, especially rhythmic effects, fail to come through.
I don't listen to much rock, but there is one strange thing about the A.N. on some of the Sheffield rock and jazz recordings: drums and basses are way too punchy, and fatiguing.
So it will be interesting to see what happens if I let it burn in.
Anyone know if the Lambda Two transport has a signature sound that may be contributing? (e.g. lean tonal balance, punchy bass)
