Ted, I am afraid, it looks like I do not understand your point about isochronous and bulk transfers over USB. I get Steve's point here (and Scrith's point too). Pull model is the best. Except that Scrith thinks "async USB" is the ONLY one doing this. The Squeezebox does it, or even a computer directly generating a SPDIF output (using a PCI card probably). Steve hit the nail on the head. If some sort of PLL is involved it is less than ideal. A fixed frequency oscillator clocking out the bits from a buffer, with logic to ensure that the buffer does not overrun or underrun, is the architecture we want for low jitter, (assuming the oscillator is of high-frequency). Am I right ?
