CDs have their limitations, like everything else, but having a good DAC is paramount in transforming all the digital data that the CD does have into a clean analog signal. You might try a dozen DACs, including expensive ones, and have them all fall short. But wait until you find one that does a good job with minimal noise; then your attitude will likely change.I just got done building a DAC from a kit (what agony!!!) that uses a 12v battery for power and was carefully designed to minimize noise within the circuits, but all I can say now that it's done is WOW!
I'm pretty sure the problems being describe here have to do the DAC or the circuits, and not in the CDs themselves.
