Home Digital Drive

Upsamplers, DACs, jitter, shakes and analogue withdrawals, this is it.

Maybe some of my fellow Rega Apollo owner pals...

would agree with this statement: The Apollo moves one much closer to vinyl sound than other cdp's in its price bracket.
I would, for myself, assert much more, such as, VINYL IS IN TROUBLE! hahaha If Rega does another leap forward with the planned Saturn cdp then vinyl is REALLY in trouble! (It's interesting to read Rega's explanation of how the new design for the laser in the Apollo came about due to Sony's bowing out of production...)
The Apollo is a great player, I just last night had another exciting redbook listening session. I do not have tt, but have heard some excellent high end tt rigs and the Apollo to my ears moves one much closer to vinyl-like sound than most cdps in its price range. You should get to a Rega dealer and audition one.
So, NO, do NOT give up on cd's yet. Things are just getting very good technologically with cdp's!
You commented, "...it is as if a layer of detail is missing and there is some kind of flattening of the music that you dont know is missing until you play a record." I would say that with the Apollo Rega has addressed those very problems.
I would like some more of the Apollo owners to post their reviews. Especially interesting would be comments from individuals who have vinyl rigs and how the Apollo stacks up.
