My friend who had the 8260 and will be selling it and getting the 9500 is a fanatic about audio. He said when he brought the 8260 and heard it on my system, he heard stuff he did not hear before and thought the 9500 (I have not heard it) was smoother on the top end. My system includes Thiel 7.2s as the left and right with 2 Rel Storm III subs (crossed over at 22 HZ), a Bryston SP 1.7 pre/pro and a Bryston 14BSST amp. My main source is a Modwright XA-777ES. I have another friend who works sporadically at the high end shop (just fills in) and he sold his 8260 already and bought the 9500 which he should be getting any day. The 8260 is still a good value. We all also like my SCD-C2000ES CD/SACD changer (which I now have in the basement system, a good value for $399, not horrible on CD and very good on SACD.
