Re: Cd players )$1000

keep in mind if you go with a sacd-cd player like the marantz or a sony or denon or whatever the sacd version of a disc will sound much better than the redbook side so you will probably only want to listen to sacd material ( thats just sacd vs. cd on the universal players and not sacd of the particular player vs. redbook of a better dedicated redbook player where the comparison will be closer and might even favour the redbook player). sony especially "tunes" their players to sound better on sacd then cd to convince people of the benefits and therefore sell their products. At that point, i believe you might only continue to purchase sacd material and then be frustrated by the lack of material available as well as the additional costs of sacd discs.

Another option for you, which some have done and swear by is buying a cheaper universal player and a separate dac like a Dack !

personally im sticking to redbook as having recently bought a middle line cd player and when paired to quality amplification and speakers i dont miss anything... the high-res stuff and surround music i can wait for, when the software choices become better and when excellent players become more affordable (but sometimes i buy a hybrid disc for a few bucks more, just in case...)
