Using Marantz Professional Kit as a CDTransport

I note that the Marantz CDR620 had something of a following as a CD transport - but what experience has anyone had in using current Marantz professional CD players or recorders as a transport - especially PDM340 or CDR631? Or, indeed, current kit from other makes with a high quality mechanism and AES/EBU digital ouput?
