Dear Carolvs,The entire SACD system is based on technology that is cheap to make and uncritical in manufacture, hence the excessive use of oversampling, remember the first delta-sigma converter chips, they cost literally pence in large quantity unlike their multibit brethren which require precision laser tuning to get their resolution, the delta-sigma do "the same thing" by using trickery (read oversampling).
Huge difference in cost and higher specs to boot, what more can the large scale companies wish for?
Best of both worlds.
As usual there is never (or should I say very very rarely?) a free lunch in manufacturing anything and this is no exception.
Sincerely,
Peter Qvortrup
