Upsamplers, DACs, jitter, shakes and analogue withdrawals, this is it.

Re: When purchasing a CD player, does it...

The short answer is yes.
The player/transport and the dac have to have the same type of connecter to be used together. If the player only has an optical[toslink] output than the dac must have an optical[toslink] input. In your example you could only use the MSB dac. Your other option would be to buy a Monarchy DIP [anti-jitter box] which will accept either optical or coax input and outputs coax or AES/EBU, then you could use a player with only an optical output with the AVA Omega III. That adds $200 to your cost so you could also look for a player/transport that has a coax output. Although adding the DIP would probably give you the best sound. What player are you considering? Someone might be able to give you a better recommendation if we knew that.
Happy listening,
Jeff
