I can really only only tell you about what I know and unfortunately I don't know very much about the Ki signature models. Further, I have only heard the Marantz 8260 at a retailer. Now, all of that said, I can make a few comments on what I do know.
First off, the 8260 was going into an Audio Research LS25 then VTM200 and finally into B&W N801's. They were playing Telarc's 1812 SACD and the sound was quite good. Amazing dynamics. I listened to a few of my CD's (KOB, Orange Symphonette, Oscar Peterson - live at town hall, Nicolas Peyton - Peyton's Place) on the system and everything sounded great. The soundstage was nice and 3D with good seperation of instruments. But then again, it was a completely unfamiliar system.
I did however take part in the recent Philips SACD 1000 $399 buy-in. I am not sure of much the Philips sounds like the Marantz 8260, but on paper, they both do similar things and have similar output sections. I know the Philips uses the Crystal CS4397 DAC, which I *think* is the same one as the Marantz 8260. I have been happy with the playback of the unit so far, but have not done any ABC comparisons with my 6000ose and CD17 yet. I now have a remote switching preamp so I will be comparing them soon.
As far as the Marantz 6000 ose and CD17 go, I can make a few more comments. I own both players and prefer the interface of the 6000 and the sound of the CD17. The CD17 is bolted down, powerful, solid, refined, detailed, and well balanced tonally. The 6000ose is more agressive, and not as refined, but not harsh. It just has a looser feel to it and a lot of people may like that sound better - it certainly works well with rock and jazz. I also like the 6000's dot matrix display with CD text.
I have heard the CD17mk2 in a store but never in my home system. I am seeking one right now to purchase and compare to my CD17. I have been told on this board that the mk2 is a better player. When I heard the mk2, I did not think there much of a difference, but once again I was dealing with an unfamiliar system. I also would love to get my hands on a CD17 mk1 or mk2 KI signature. It looks like you have to get the new ones shipped from Japan or Europe.
I will try to put both of the Marantz players in the main system with the Philips SACD 1000 and do some comparions. I need to figure out which discs I want to listen to and make 3 copies of them so that I don't end up comparing the sound of an original disc to two copies. Hell, while I am at it I might as well throw the Sony CE775 sacd player in there too. I also need to come up with a good explanation for the wife.
