Re: DAC or not to DAC ?

I'm not sure I would recommend an MSB DAC. It will sound better than what you have, but after a while it's hard sound and forward presentation may get on your nerves. That was my experience--I owned one for a good while. I now have a Birdland Audio Odeon Lite DAC and cannot really imagine more musical sound from a digital source. It costs $980, whereas the Bel Canto, which may be just as good, costs $1250 (don't quote me on that). All of this, of course, is above the price range you've mentioned. The MSB might work for you, depending on your other components. Just try before you buy. Have fun.
