Re: Chose of used CD Player at $500?

I really like my new NAD C541i (I bought it for $435). My other favorite in the pricerange you mention is the Rotel RCD-971 (used for under $500). The Rotel RCD-1070 ($700 new), which has replaced the 971 in the Rotel line, is supposed to be even better, but I haven't auditioned it. I was less impressed by Cambridge Audio players and the Music Hall CD-25, and I couldn't live with the sound and ergonomics of the highly respected Rega Planet. I thought that the Arcam Diva 72 was a bit lean (but I haven't heard the Alpha 8). I suggest that you try to listen to your favorite music on whatever CD players you might consider before you plunk down the cash. The differences are often subtle, but those differences can grow on you or wear you down.
