Undecided about transport for Msb linkdac.

I need to purchase a transport for an Msb linkdac. I am undecided between purchasing a Pioneer 525 and modifying it, or a used cd only transport. Eg. Theta Data. The cd transport will most likely be more expensive than the Pioneer but should offer better performance (I'm guessing). My audio system is in a separate room from the TV/family room, so the video section from the Pioneer is not that important but would be nice to have for DVD music CD's. Has anyone done any comparisons between a modified Pioneer 525 and a cd transport?
