I've heard an Andy Bartha modified (PSU/Caps, etc) MSB Platinum directly against my Dodson via an Accuphase DP-55. Cables were different (COAX/Toslink) but the speakers were Avantgarde DUOs V.1, Cary 2A3s, Burmesster 935mkII preamp (I think, too many in my friends system to remember at that time.)The MSB had about $700 worth of upgrading so right in line with my Dodson D ($3850/6 month old dealer demo) and there were differences in the treble, with the MSB being more extended/hotter. Better bass on the Dodson, more delineated/clearer. Midrange was similar.
He runs the Purcel/Delius w/a ML 31 Transport. However, he's had the EC EMC-1, Audio Logic 2400, Mephisto Transport, Cary 303, Metronome iV Tube CDP, so I'm somewhat experienced with his rig and a few of the better names.
