I guess one real advantage of a DAC is that if it had to go in for repairs you still would have your Marantz to play your CDs (^_^). Personally, I would hate to bother with the complex matching process (data cables in particular). Lots of auditioning involved, as TBone wisely pointed out.

Incidentally, I'm thinking of getting the 6000 OSE (factory refurbished w/warranty) for $330. I've heard that the player has a little too much energy in the highs/low mids, resulting in slightly steely violins and hard cymbals. Is that true?
