Upgrade CD player or get a DAC?

Hi,
I am using a Marantz CD6000OSE. Would like to get some advice from fellow inmates. Should I upgrade/mod my Marantz or should I buy a dedicated DAC and use the Marantz as a transport? Which option would be the most bang for the buck?
