I actually specifically bought the Marantz CC 4000 ose because of the dig var out. The 6000 ose doesn't have it. The dig var out is controlled by a chip inside and the analog outs are controlled in the same manner. I assume that the 65 is similar. The only thing I can think of is that because the chip actually recodes the bits, the HDCD isn't getting through. The only chance you might have is if you leave the digital out on full output. I use the 4000 ose into a dac and I have no problems. I played a HDCD on it but my DAC doesn't decode HDCD.Hope this helps. E-mail me w/ further Q's.
Why aren't you just using the CAL? For convenience?
