Though I don't own the Marantz 16, in general I think you'll be much better off with the Marantz 16 than with the Marantz 17 or OS6000. The marantz 16 is the luxury version of the marantz 17 and, if I'm not mistaken has a balanced output board. This balanced output board is the same as in the Marantz 15, which I happen to own (!). The sound of the CD15 is magical, even to today's standards and is mostly due to its execelent build (rare these days!) and superb analog stage and premium Philips DAC's.The Marantz 15 was Marantz statement product before introduction of the Marantz CD 7, and was only sold in Japan. It looks very sililar in size and build to the CD 7, but DAC topology is very different. As the 15 and 16 are more similar and based on that, you can expect much more from the 16 than from the 17 or 6000. The 16 has the same rigid build but in smaller dimensions. Even though the 6000 is a newer model (you can expect CD Text and CD-RW compatibility) the CD16 will have much more rigid physical build (just compare weight), much better power supply and use of quality components, and as said the balanced analog output board. The balanced output board uses custom transformers which sound significantly better compared to using the un-balanced RCA outputs (similar to the difference between SS and Tubes!) Also, the 16 will come with a much more rigid remote control than the 6000.
Seen the price and my experience, I would go for the CD 16, assuming you use the balanced outputs (you can 'convert' into un-balanced easily by using a converter plug)
