Upsamplers, DACs, jitter, shakes and analogue withdrawals, this is it.

What about a Tascam CD-500B?

My friend's husband uses Tascam electronics. They have a different Tascam model (one which also records), but there is a CD-only CD-500B. If you don't mind the black color, tiny display, and slot-loading mechanism, the CD-500B takes up very little space, and has both RCA and XLR analog outputs.

The remote-controlled CD-500B does not have Elapsed Disc Time function, but it does have the critical Track and Disc Time Remaining functions. The unit also has Tos-link, RCA, and XLR digital outputs. It also has an IEC jack, so you can play around with aftermarket powercords.

My friend Kuma likes the Tascam gear, because, unlike a lot of audiopile products, "it doesn't play games with the sound." She says that, at $599, the Tascam CD-500B is at least worth investigating.
