RE: Magnavox CD players

I used my Magnavox cdb-650 regularly until 2014 when I elminated the system located in the exercise room where it played flawlessly. I remember when new, I would program CDs using it's handy fold-down number pad to identify the CD and my elimnation of tiresome cuts. That model was supposed to be the re-badged Philips that wowed so many reviewers "back in the day." I sounded good to me then, but in comparison to many current high quality players and separates, I would not use it for serious (or demanding) listening.

Thinking of Magnavox, my first "record player" was a Magnavox "portable" that one would de-hinge the left stereo speaker from the front of the unit and place it appropriately to create a triangle with the listener at the apex. It was no portable to me; never moved it from its "best set up." I acquired it under the ruse of a 1960 Christmas gift to my mom to replace the stereo component system removed from the house when my dad was asked to leave (he was a violent drunk). (The removal of his system was a great loss to me, so my mother understood completely.)
