I've opted for the Marantz CD5004 because the Onkyo has a captive main's lead.

I can't vouch for its longevity or reliability since I haven't had it long enough but sound wise, it's pretty easy going and laid back whilst maintaining above average midrange details and micro dynamics. So this might be something you might enjoy. I have been using it in my office along with Naim Nait 3R integrated amp. There is a slight treble lift when the volume is pushed but after putting my favourite power cord, it cleaned up nicely along with better frequency reach. And its *audio mode* ( basically disabling digital out, headphone outs, pitch control etc..) further improved the sound. I wasn't expecting much out of this unit and was planing to use it with an external DAC but for now, it's quite enjoyable as it is.
I think this one beat my past *giant* killer CD/DVD players easily in terms of listenability.
