Home Digital Drive

Upsamplers, DACs, jitter, shakes and analogue withdrawals, this is it.

RE: Upgrading Digital Front End

Another option would be an Oppo BDP-105 . I bought one a month ago and although I didn't like the sound of it at first, I've gotten used to it and I think it sounds pretty good now. I think it improved with break-in.

If you buy it directly from Oppo, you have a 30-day trial period within which you can return it if you don't like it. They even refund shipping so all it costs you is return shipping.

The main reason I bought it was because I needed balanced analog outputs and I wanted to replace my DVD/Blu-Ray player, my CD player, my computer music server and DAC as well as add SACD capability to my system. It does all of this in one component and it sounds pretty good to me now.

You can connect USB hard drives directly containing music files and it also has DAC inputs. You need a HDTV so you can see your playlists. It also has all the audio and video applications built-in like Netflix, Pandora, YouTube, and many more. It is truly an all-in-one component and it now forms the heart of my audio/video system .

You can easily rip your CDs to a hard drive using Exact Audio Copy (EAC). That's what I did with my 500 CDs. Presently, I have my favorite selections stored on a couple of 64-GB flash drives that are plugged into my Oppo. I like using flash drives better than a hard drive because the Oppo keeps the hard drive spinning continuously when it is turned on. In other words, even it you're watching a DVD or playing SACD, the hard drive is spinning continuously. Therefore, I figured that USB flash drives would be a better option. Another option would be a USB SSD.

Good luck,
John Elison
