I know this is an oldish thread, but just thought I'd chime in. I use the 651C in my main system, and the CD6004 in the family room. All I can say is, WHATHIFI is out of their minds if they think the Marantz beats the Cambridge. I A/B'd them in my main system, and I can tell you that the extra 300 bucks for the 651C is well worth the money. The Marantz isn't bad at all--it's snappy yet warm, and makes a great player for my secondary system. The Cambridge Audio 651C, however, is much more lush sounding. It's fuller and more holographic, and has a wide soundstage that the Marantz doesn't come close to.
I notice that, for some reason, WHATHIFI seems to love anything Marantz the last few years. Don't get me wrong, the Marantz is a good player, and I love that it's made in Japan, but, IMHO, the Cambridge beats it hands down.
Enjoy the tunes!
