RE: My Last CD Player....

I currently have the 640c v2 which utilizes dual DAC’s (one for each channel).

Compared to the 540c it replaced, it has cleaner, less ‘digital’ highs, less grating and smoother but still with good extension, decay & detail. The mids are balanced and realistic, not warm but still involving and non-fatiguing. The low frequency is where the biggest difference is. Deeper, quicker, not bloated or bloomy. Jazz acoustic bass, for example, is presented more in proportion to where it should be (when it is on the source to begin with, of course) with strength and dynamics.

Sound stage and depth are equivalent, which is to say ‘good’.

Keep in mind, you are asking about the newer 550, my experience is with the older 540 and 640 v2.
