RE: Best "old" redbook DAC?

I still use an ancient EAD 7000 for CD's and it sounds as good as ever and I personally haven't heard anything better for whatever that's worth. However it can't play anything over 48KS/s so I have to use my laptop to play 24/96 files and the extra resolution really does sound better on well recorded music.

So... I wouldn't consider buying a DAC nowadays that can't play at least 24/96 files. Note that that in itself isn't sufficient to insure that it will sound good, you have to buy one that can handle the newer resolutions AND sound good then you will be set for both.

Regards, Rick
