Yes, it was helpful. It is discouraging not to read an all-positive review, although this is far more helpful for my choice than anything I've read so far.
I was hoping for a "CD and cables" kind of player, nothing to add in anyway. I see my current biggest problem as not having a good enough DAC for anything, and the optional inputs and built-in upsampling wooed me. Also, the 99 CDP-2 would allow me to temporarily do without a preamp, since I'm planning on active speakers. What I've got now is a $70 RCA five-changer, so I know it will be a step up, but I don't want to have to worry about replacement for quite a while.
I've heard just a couple good things about the Music Hall CD25.2, but I believe it is in a lower price bracket. Thanks for your help in my quest for a player that is ever-the-best-value.
P.S. It must be frustrating seeing us kids on the Asylum with the budget of a seasick gerbil. Thanks for putting up with us. :-)
