Re: and the winner is.........Sony!

Hey John,

Thanks so much for this detailed reply. I went back to the shop with the marantz 631 and those cdr's that it would not read (displayed opc error) as well as the kodaks, and the basf that the marantz 631 was able to burn but not finalize.

First we tried out the 'opc error discs' (the imation and the tdk) in there floor model 631 and their unit gave the same error reding. Then we put the same 2 discs in a tascam, sony, and the hhb850. all three had no trouble initializing the discs and gave no 'error' message. So that was strike one against the marantz. Then I put the unfinalized kodak in the sony and it was able to finalize it no problem.

I returned the marantz (and the dealer has now lost confidence in the marantz 631 since both his and mine suffer the same problems.)and I bought the sony cdr-W33. It's a brand new model (released in october 2000) and the kicker was that it cost $400 less then the HHB850.

I am presently burning the first cdr on it right now. I'm using a maxell blank. I'll post the results once yielded.

Thanks again for your info.
