I had the Marantz CDR 630 for fifteen months and used either MAxell, Sony or TDK with excellent results. Never had a single disc that I could not finalise. The finalised CD-Rs play in most CD players, though there are DVD players that do not recognise them, such as Denon. My Pioneer 414 DVD will play an unfinalised CD-R, but only from the begining, will not allow you to advance tracks until the disc is finalised.
Otherwise, am patiently waiting on Marantz to ship my CDR 631.
Stick with the high speed name brands & you can't go wrong.
enjoy
