Upsamplers, DACs, jitter, shakes and analogue withdrawals, this is it.

My impression

Cheap DACs are probably going to do an OK job, but they are still likely to be a weak link in one's system. From what I've been reading it seems that DACs of today still have needed room for improvement, especially in terms of jitter. My guess is the release of one new chip could easily make current DACs pretty much obsolete.

I'm about to build a DDDAC1543 MK2 that comes as a kit. What's neat here is that studying how this DAC evolved has allowed me to become better educated in the weaknesses and strengths of current designs. The bottom line is that there were inherent weaknesses that needed to get worked around in this design, weaknesses that even the best DACs of today are also prone to.
