Re: Anyone familiar with the Marantz SA8260 SACD-CD player?

Mine replaced a Pioneer PD-65 for redbook and a Sony NS500V for SACD. It kills the Sony on SACD, and sounds a bit tighter around the edges than the Pioneer did. A nice machine overall. On the downside, it's way more finicky about what discs it will play, especially CD-Rs (the PD-65 NEVER met a disc it wouldn't play).

If you're buying used, be careful. Some of the older models had a defective laser assembly and/or circuit board that rendered some SACDs unreadable. Do a search and you'll find much written about it. My used unit wouldn't read several of my SACDs. The seller had it fixed under warranty by the factory and it now works fine.
