I think the difference should be noticeable on "lesser" systems... Or even a "mid-fi" system... One has to listen extensively in case he thinks the improvement he's perceiving is "placebo effect"... It becomes most-noticeable listening to entire albums where the "15-second" track is played prior to sequencing back to the first track. I may also record both playback "methods" onto analog cassette. Before you mentioned it, I did not know such a problem even existed. (And I've dug into the depths of digital problems as much as anyone.) I may have occasionally played a track or two in the "improved" mode without even realizing it. I do recall on rare occasion a track sounding "exceptional" but thought it was merely the "system on a good night."
I played the Schumann 3 with Cleveland/Dohnanyi "primed" with a 15-second playing of a track (the track played for 15 seconds does not matter)... and had a *totally* different reaction to it. My roommate, before he was told of the revelation, even mentioned he thought he noticed an improvement.
Note all you have to do is for each CD, play a track for about 15 seconds, and as long as you "sequence" to the tracks (not "jump" to them) or listen continuously afterwards, you're set for that CD.
I might bring this up on General- I am not afraid to bring up this kind of stuff... I posted another revelation in the past, where I thought the proliferation of digital products and RFI has impaired our perception of reproduced music- See link. (I want to try this experiment with the JVC XLZ1050 CD player- This product may be devoid of this problem. I keep hearing a musicality that eludes even today's SOTA digital products.)
I think this revelation is so profound, I plan on running an extensive DBT with this- All one needs to do is either play a track 15 seconds muted or "fake" playing the track for 15 seconds.
