Upsamplers, DACs, jitter, shakes and analogue withdrawals, this is it.

RE: Easy to achieve "good" but for "special"

Yes, I still have a lot to optimize, on that X26 Pro. Everything, in fact.
I have an ACME Silver cryo fuse, the one with the special coating, on the way.
I have an Ikea butcher bloc arriving on Monday. A few footers to try with it.
I will try the Toslink input (but I'm reading everywhere that SPDIF coax is the better sounding connection, in general?)
I have to swap a few power cords and see what sounds best.

But still, it sounds SO DIFFERENT from my A18, that sometimes it has me scratching my head. What if it's damaged? It is after all a second hand device. It doesn't "sound damaged", but I don't know, maybe I'm just used to the sound of op-amp based output stages, which are quite "matter of fact" with little room for "personality", that the X26 Pro in comparison sounds slightly fuzzy, blurry, with less insight on what's happening in the recording. Smooth, yes, but somehow I'd love a bit more transparency, and I never thought I would write that about a double ES9038 Pro DAC.

I've been reading here and there about firmware updates, but does this concern the SPDIF input too, or only the USB inputs?
